Buying Used OEM for a BMW G22 4 Series (2021–): Which Parts Are Worth It

The G22 4 Series is barely out of warranty, so nobody is replacing worn-out parts on it yet. What people do need is the other half of the story: a bumper after a car park scrape, a headlight after a stone, a radar module after a low-speed hit, a seat cushion after a spilled coffee. Those parts come off low-mileage donor cars, and buying them used instead of new is the difference between a repair and a write-off. Here is what we stock for the G22 and what to know before you order.

1. Headlights: the lens and the brain are separate parts

The LED and adaptive units on this car are built as a housing, a projector module and a control unit. A light that flickers, drops one function or throws an error is far more often the control module than the whole assembly — and the module costs a fraction of it. When the housing itself is cracked or the lens has been sandblasted by motorway miles, only then does the complete unit need to move.

2. Driver assistance: cheap parts, expensive calibration

Blind-spot radars sit behind the rear bumper, the surround-view cameras in the tailgate and mirrors, the parking sensors on their own harness. Any of them can be knocked out by a bump that leaves no visible damage. The parts themselves are affordable used; what matters is that after fitting they need coding and calibration — plan for the workshop time, and buy the part with the matching part number rather than a similar-looking one.

3. The front end after a small collision

Behind the grille sits an active air shutter with its own actuator, and it is one of the first things to break in a front knock — the car then logs a fault about the shutter rather than about the crash. Diffusers, sealing panels and brackets are the other pieces that quietly add up on an estimate; used originals keep the paint match and the fit that aftermarket copies rarely have.

4. Rear suspension: the first real wear item

On a car this young the suspension is usually fine — until a pothole or a kerb. Rear control arms and the knuckle are the parts that take that hit, and they are the ones we sell most for the G22. A knock over expansion joints, uneven rear tyre wear or a steering wheel that no longer sits straight after a bump: check the arms before assuming anything worse.

5. B58 cooling and the 48-volt system

The M440i carries the B58 straight six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid starter-generator. That adds a second electrical system with its own cables, and it adds heat: the coolant hoses and the expansion tank plumbing are what we replace most on the engine side. None of it is dramatic yet, but on a car with a starter-generator a tired cable is worth catching early.

6. Interior parts that fail by accident, not by age

Sport seat cushions, lumbar bolsters, seat harnesses: nothing here wears out in four years, but a torn bolster or a damaged harness after an airbag event still needs a matching original. Trim colour and seat type matter more than the year — send a photo along with the VIN and we will match it.

7. G22, G23, G26 or M4 — the badge is not enough

The coupe (G22), convertible (G23), Gran Coupe (G26) and M4 (G82) share a family but not their panels, seats or, in places, their electronics. On top of that, most modules on this generation are coded to the car. Send the VIN before ordering: we check the part number against your build rather than against the model name.
